School travel plan

A school travel plan lists the obstacles to walking and cycling to and from school, and proposes corrective measures to make it safe and pleasant.

An expert report recommending the location of bike racks, based on the school's needs, is also attached to the plan.

The recommendations in the travel plan are addressed to the municipality's elected officials and planning specialists, schools, school boards and police departments.

Since 2005, in collaboration with our regional partners, we have drawn up travel plans for numerous primary and secondary schools in Quebec.

The purpose of the travel plan process is to identify obstacles to active travel in the neighborhoods around schools, and to propose solutions to alleviate these obstacles and create more user-friendly environments for active travel.

Plans completed in the last three years

We can provide you with PDFs of plans produced over the past three years.

If your school is not on this list, you can check with the principal to find out if a plan has already been drawn up, and access it if necessary. Note that a plan that has been in place for more than three years may reflect realities that have changed since then.

Monitoring a travel plan

Following the submission of a travel plan, local stakeholders (management, teachers, parents, citizens) are invited to follow up with the authorities concerned to ensure that the measures suggested in the plan are implemented.

Would you like to have a plan drawn up for your school? We'd love to hear from you.
